My 4 year old grandson adores this book. The general concept is that the narrator is reading a different, more traditional, story when... a Crocodile appears! Now... How do we usher him out of our story? This involves several interactive ploys that keep a youngster excited and interested, For the most part the book is easy to read aloud with the sort of rhythm and voice range that appeals to little ears. We had to arrive very early for Pre-K one morning and brought books to fill the time. We were reading this when the others began arriving and I quickly acquired a rapt audience. My grandson's First Steps therapists stressed anticipation and repetition as being important learning tools and there's certainly anticipation here. He's usually yelling 'It's a crocodile!' before I can turn the page. The crocodile escape gimmick is a physical hole in the back of the book. This feature beckons to little fingers so you might consider re-enforcing the opening as it will likely get bent and tear.

This book has been a total hit with our kids. Cute pictures and they love the storyline! Their favourite part is at the end, when the crocodile bites through the back of the book. There is actually a hole at the back, with zig zaggy edges, that you can literally see through the back of. They love this feature! Having said that, however, there are two things that could be done to improve it. My 7 yr old has suggested that it would be even better if the back of the book shows the crocodile coming out of the book. The last page shows his back end still in the book and it's obvious that the croc has gone out the back of the book, but there is no front end to the croc on the back cover. I agree with my son, that it would be even cuter if the front half of the croc was pictured climbing out of the back of the book, through the hole. Also, the last page, which has the bite out of it should either be reinforced or made out of stronger material, as since there is a hole in the page, it is asking for accidental rips and tears. The kids will want to put their fingers and hands through the hole, and our was slightly torn after only one day. If the edges at the hole were stronger, this could be prevented. The kids also love the part where the croc gets annoyed at having a tutu drawn onto him...very cute book and we highly recommend!

The presentation, and art, in this offering are terrific. Watch the eyes of your four year old as s/he shakes the book one way, or tilts it another as invited to rid the book of the crocodile! The playful "tension" of the story is delightful for even the very young...after all, this is a very "un-scary" crocodile. I might quibble a bit with his gobbling up of letters and words which might, without some artful reader supplement, be a bit thin for a young ear. I'd have given the book an extra star save for the weak and anti-climatic ending...definitely a whimper not a bang. Way too bad because until the last page the young listener is glued...and then? The end.

This book is so cute and reminds me of "There's a Monster at the End of this book," (one of my old favorites!) It is interactive and comical. My daughter loves it!

It was an ok book. It really did not engage my 4 year old or myself.

My daughter likes this book. It is definately a "unique" story, but very family friendly.

This book is really well written and very easy to follow. It just wasn't what I thought it would be; it's more of a history of Jewish-ness - like, what does it mean to be Jewish at different places and times in antiquity - sometimes told out of sequence, than it is a history of "the Jews" as a social, political and geographic tale. As someone who is not Jewish I felt like I was missing a lot of references and meaning in the discourse about what it means to practice Judaism. Not a criticism of the book or of Schama at all, it just wasn't 100% for me and that's okay.

What I most like about Schama’s book was the emphasis on the tangible. He concentrates on archeological discoveries, surviving papyrus letters and fragments, the ruins of ancient synagogue, their styles, locations and decorations, in other words, things that can be seen, felt, read. He does not start the history with Abraham, Moses and similar mythic characters for whom there is no real evidence. Since he deals mainly with the tangible, the history does not start as early as one might have thought, but starts early enough, at around 1000 B.C.E., and follows the Jews through Hellenistic, Roman, and Medieval Ages up until nearly the 16th century.One question that always comes to mind when reading Jewish history is how did this particular group survive when just about all other cotemporaneous religions and ethnicities disappear ages ago. Schama stresses the great advantage literacy gave the Jews for enduring cohesively through two Temple destruction, numerous exiles, attempted annihilations, forced conversions, and other scourges. Literacy seems always to have been encouraged. After all, even Yahweh himself was depicted as literate, inscribing the Ten Commandants himself and tagging Belshazzar’s wall. What other early gods sent missives to their people? I don’t recall off the top of my head Astarte, Baal, Zoroaster, Zeus depicted as reading and writing; usually their intentions were interpreted by oracles, omens and the like. But the laws of the Jews (unlike, say, the Moabites) were transcribed early on and apparently could be read a wide range of the populace. As early as the eighth century B.C.E., even heavy laborers carving a water conduit left inscriptions strongly suggesting they were literate. And from twenty-five centuries ago survive the letters of a Jewish mercenary at a faraway post to his family back home. The book has many more such examples.Simon Schama is a noted British lecturer and TV documentarian. He has a pleasant, conversational manner of speech, and he attempts to infuse this manner into his writing. So his sentences often have asides, phrases and comments through the use of commas, parentheses, dashes, quotation marks and italics. The result is that, for a history, his style seems chatty. This chattiness might be off-putting to some, but I found it pleasant, like a friend telling a story.

It goes without saying that this book is intellectually superior and informative in areas not familiar to many who will read it. The greatest virtue is Schama's writing though. Perhaps it's from seeing him on TV many times, but his tone is always that of a friendly personal conversation with the reader. Although his information is passing from a far higher level to a lower one, he never talks down. Further, Schama has often shown a level of subtle wit in his work that is the best of its sort since Gibbon. It's very difficult to think of a historian who combines information and enjoyment for the reader nearly as much.

All that sheer nonsense about Jews killing Christians to make Matzo Soup, etc, that led to the rapacious, deadly pogroms is deconstructed, along with other myths that Christians believed for millennia in justifying their robbery, confiscation of property, and outright murder of the Jews.Myth and origin is at the heart of Schama's brilliant book. There are times he has a wicked sense of humor at the wonderment of what the wandering jews have suffered, survived, and accomplished. His journey thru history takes us from the earliest known days of the religion, the Diaspora, it's fatal union with the Christian elements over the Dark- Middle Ages, as well as it's relations to Islam. His followup is likely to be as good if not better.

One can easily be forgiven for assuming that there's no "new" way to present Jewish history, but Simon Schama has done it in this book. The focus of "The Story of the Jews" is the Torah and Talmud and how the Jewish people developed their consciousness, observances and traditions in light of those works. Ranging from Persia to England, Schama describes how Jewish communities mingled the demands of religion with the demands of the various social and political environments they lived in. The writing is superb: flowing and touched with humor as well as with emotion. It is a book to read again and again.

I knew very little about the great importance of the archives in Cairo and Alexandria and how they transfer to us today so many important, personal and nationwide, fact during hundreds of yeas.Schama story is based not on ideas, it is based on archaeological findings from all over the globe which makes the reader more confident in the truth of the story.Schama does not lecture the story, he describes the fact like a history novel... Following the iconic characters of the Pathfinder RPG system, the stories feel like a game being illustrated. Seeing the stories unfold captures the imagination of how you can build a game beyond the numbers and more to the story and characters involved.

We love these Pathfinder comics. These collections are a much better deal than buying the comics individually.We also love the extras they include - additional cover art, and one shot modules.

While the plot was predictable (monster of the day defeated with the help of new friend of the day, ultimate monster defeated with combined efforts of all), I found the characters fascinating, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

We began playing Pathfinder earlier this year, and have really gotten into our games and characters. I purchased this for my son....anything to get him to read! The good part....he read it! The bad part...it didn't take very long. This is basically a comic book: not much text on each page, so it will go quickly. I recommend the Kindle version, as it is much cheaper.

I picked up this volume by way of the "Pathfinder Adventure Card Game" in which the characters of this book appear. Playing that game got me a little curious about Valeros, Ezren, Seoni and the rest of the group, so I thought the looking this over would give me a some additional background on the characters and flesh out the fantasy setting the game and book share. "Dark Waters Rising" did just that, so I would recommend it to anyone who is playing that game but is, like me, essentially ignorant of the extensive Pathfinder role-playing game world.Since they are derived from a D&D-style role-playing game, it's no surprise that the six comic books collected in this volume are centered on the adventures of a small group of stock RPG archetypes (a fighter, a thief, a wizard, a sorceress, a ranger and a cleric) and feature lots of action. That's pretty much what comics and these sorts of games are about, right? Myself, I largely gave up reading comics and playing D&D years ago, but nevertheless, enjoyed the stories here.The quality of the art is pretty good--detailed, colorful, stylized. The character design is great, though I don't know if that originated with the book's artists or the Paizo RPG. There were a few instances when I had problems following the action, but that may be due as much to my having learned to read comic books in the `60s, when there was more narration and tightly defined panels as to the artists' sometimes frenetic style.Lastly, I want to emphasize the high physical quality of the book. When I first considered getting it, I balked a bit at the relatively high cost for comic collection, being used to the cheaper Dark Horse TPBs. Upon arrival those impressions were cast aside. This is a nice item: a good sturdy hardback with over-sized pages. The larger pages allow the preservation of the original comicbook page dimension and a decorative band along the gutters of the pages. This clever addition prevents the edges of the pages from disappearing down the middle crease of the book. Great idea.I would recommend "Pathfinder Volume 1: Dark Waters Rising" to anyone interested in the Pathfinder RPG (the book's extensive game oriented section that follows the comics is geared to such readers) or the Adventure Card Game, as well as anyone just looking for some rousing D&D-style adventure in a comics format. Definitely a fun read for me and I look forward to getting the next volume when it is published.

I loved this. The artwork was excellent, the story was fantastic and I now want to play Pathfinder badly. I also really enjoyed the bits in the back that allow you to play the adventure with your friends. Very very well done Pathfinder... take all of my money right now!! :)

Good old fashioned story of good vs evil. Interesting and diverse characters. Pathfinder Rpg fan myself. Liked the history, maps and the character sheets and battle maps included. Good purchase for any hardcore RPG fan of pathfinder genre.

Look- You can try to prepare yourself, but you’ll never really understand how bad things can get until you’re drowning in poorly drawn newman projections and faulty mechanisms. This book is a first hand account of survival. The author pulls you into his world but shows you how to cope. How to move forward and how you can get past the grief and mental exhaustion. DO NOT GO INTO THE JUNGLES OF OCHEM WITHOUT THIS BOOK. YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT OUT ALIVE

I made A's in both general chemistry classes, but I was terrified of Organic Chemistry because I was told so many times that it is a very difficult class. You must learn the material as you go because each new topic adds to the last. For me, just memorizing the material doesn't work. If I can't understand it, I can't memorize it! I am an older, non-traditional student and I have found this book to be a sanity saver! I use this book first to understand the material, then my textbook second. The information is complete and is easily understood. The pressure seems to be on authors to create a textbook that adds mystery to the subject and weighs no less than 20 pounds - full of superfluous information. This fits in my purse and I can study even a few pages at a time when I have a few minutes. The exercises are appropriate to practice what I am given as textbook assignment questions. I started in the summer before class began and worked my way through the first 5 chapters. What a relief to get to class and actually understand the material we are discussing. I love this book! It has me hooked on organic chemistry - and I understand it!! It is so worth the price!! I certainly plan on ordering the Klein second semester topics as well.

The book is printed out in a very disordered manner, with all pages messed up, which is really annoying, I have to search through everything, because page number 53 is not followed by page number 54, instead it's 78. Unfortunately, the first 40 pages are in perfect order, so I started making notes before I noticed this nonsense.

Excellent book for organic chemistry students. I used this book for both organic chemistry I and II, and the author is the same author as my textbook. The 2nd language book is a condensed version of the textbook and includes all necessary reactions and relevant information. Its like taking the textbook, removing backstories and case studies, and reducing the page count to only include what is absolutely needed. I used this book before each exam, covering the units that were about to be tested. The book could also be completed in its entirety as a way to review material before the final exam as well.The book includes chapter by chapter introductions, explanations, examples, and problems with answers in the back to work on. Concepts like arrow pushing, reaction nuances, and mechanisms are covered. There is one book per semester of orgo and I would recommend getting them both. This book helped my understanding of chemistry immensely.

I knew I would have some trouble with Orgo from the start as I am not too science savvy, math is my strong point. I had trouble with even the most basic concepts at the beginning. This book breaks down topics for people who aren't as great at comprehending text or pictures. I feel like it's basically a "for dummies" collection without it being too simplified and speaks in a formal tone. It's very very simplistic to understand. I think one great aspect of it is that not only does it explain how to do a problem, it also offers along practice problems. I basically relied on this book heavily to save my grade and it delivered. I'm planning on ordering the second portion of it when I enter into Orgo 2. I'm very happy I listened to everyone who said to order this as it was worth it.Ps. this book is good for simple orgo but if you are taking orgo at a hard school like Rutgers, it really wont make much of a difference. This is just a good intro book

If you are serious about getting an A in organic chemistry you need to buy this book in addition to the awesome textbook by Klein. This was great to use/read the day of and before a test to make sure I knew the overall stratagies of each topic being tested on. There is no way to pass the class with just buying this book but it is worth the small investment to get further SIMPLE explanation. I would go over this little book before class if I didn't have time to read the whole chapter and I would make it through understanding what was going on. Either ochem is overrated or this author broke it down well.

This book is SO helpful with my Organic Chemistry lecture. however, it does not cover EVERYTHING like, conjugations, for example..but the mechanisms are explained really well, and made the concepts easier to understand. I love the practice problems it provides you with and that you DO NOT HAVE TO BUY A SEPARATE BOOK FOR THE ANSWERS- they're in the back of the book-. I highly recommend reading it before you begin the class and also using it while taking the subject. I loved writing in it on the go and the pages can hold an eraser, if that makes sense. I highly recommend it to my peers struggling with organic chemistry, and to you reading this, considering the purchase... it's helpful.

My son loves this series. The illustrations are simple but funny, and the stories are hilarious!

We like that there is a series of these with familiar characters and different elements to the stories.

Pip sees Tweet fly and he wants to fly too. He flaps and flaps, but he's not having much success so Otto tries to help him out.Some creative problem solving here for a little mouse with his head in the clouds. I like that Otto's first solution doesn't quite work and he has to revise his solution. A cute and lightly funny story that is in super easy words for kids just beginning to read.
