Great product, as expected, fast shipping

Brinkerhoff's little guide is just the right size for stuffing into the pocket of your cargo shorts or daypack, and it covers a fair sampling of short and easy South Salt Lake City and American Fork area hikes especially suited for hikers with limited abilities or families with small children. Also, the brief hike descriptions, with trailhead info, trail notes, distance and hiking time estimates, are generally helpful and reliable. But this book falls short of its potential, for it could easily have been greatly improved without sacrificing its convenient size or adding much to its cost simply by adding a few more details to some of the hike descriptions, extending the coverage a bit to include a few more popular and spectacular local hikes, and especially, by improving the trail maps.Having hiked every trail in the book, many with this text (and others) in hand, I routinely found myself correcting or supplementing Brinkerhoff's cursory trail descriptions and hand-drawn maps (which are currently little more than wiggly dotted lines with a few essential features like paved roads, trailheads and lakes) with such things as as elevation, distance, topography and terrain notes, maps of converging trails, and occasionally, minor corrections. Admittedly, some of the trails covered in the book don't actually require anything more than instructions to the trailhead, but most of them connect with other trails the reader might want either to follow or avoid, and in such cases better descriptions and maps would be a genuine help. And since the book is so small (and admirably so, for it is by far the most portable of the many Utah trail books available), it could easily have been expanded to cover a greater number of short and popular local trails--like Ensign Peak, Provo's Rock Canyon, and a host of candidates from Sandy and Millcreek Canyon. As it is, despite the title, the text really only covers Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons and American Fork Canyon (with the inclusion of a single trail in Pleasant Grove under the American Fork Canyon section).In my opinion, improvements of the kind I have mentioned would have made the book a much more serviceable text without adding significantly to either its bulk or price, and thus, should have been included. As it stands, I recommend "Best Easy Day Hikes SLC" as the best available short and cheap guide to easy Wasatch area trails, but a serious hiker will prefer something like David Day's "Utah's Favorite Hiking Trails," Steve Mann's "100 Hikes in Utah," or John Veranth's "Hiking the Wasatch," all of which are infinitely more informative and helpful--but also bigger and pricier. Or buy this for it's convenient size, and then supplement the applicable entries before your trip with important details from the bigger and better books. Hopefully, a reworked edition will soon save you the trouble.

This book is a must have if you're a hiker near the Salt Lake City area. It's great for the novice hiker, families with smaller children, or nine-to-fivers like myself trying to pick up a quick hike on weekdays before or after work. All of the routes in this book have two conveniences in common. None of the trailheads are more than an hours drive from the bottom of the canyon, and none of the hikes are more than a few miles round trip. This makes it really easy to knock of several hikes a season. Most of them average about one hour of hiking time. Brian Brinkerhoff also does a great job of describing what kind of terrain to expect. Some of the included hikes are paved for easy wheelchair and stroller access, or for the ease of beginning trail runners worried about their ankles. Several on Brinkerhoff's list includes highlights such as waterfalls, alpine lakes, and even some mining ruins, concentrating on the little and big cottonwood canyon areas.

This guide was perfect for my two days of hiking at Alta in August 2006. As a purely recreational hiker traveling alone, this book was the ideal companion.

It only had 50% (based on cost) of the supplements outlined in her book for Steps 1 & 2 and nothing at all for at Step 3…..so if you expected supplements for all 3 Steps you only got 20% of what you needed.When I complained they told me this kit wasn’t to follow the program in this book but was for a brand new Online Program. Really? Their advertising sure sounded like it was for the program in this book. I wrote 4 letters to push them to change their advertising so no one else would get duped. I also asked them to stand by their original advertising and send me the missing supplements. See a picture of the ad they are still running today.Just so you know if you want the supplements for all 3 Steps of the program in Dr. Susan Blum’s book it will cost you over $4,000. Stunned? Me too – and I thought $775 price tag was outrageous.Should it have been a huge red flag that she heavily peddled her own products in this book like other reviewers have mentioned? Before spending $775 I should have read the reviews on other sites about her and her medical practice. My experience makes me wonder if any of the content in this book is true.So far they have refused to honor the original advertising and send me the missing supplements. Seems like they can’t figure out what the right thing to do is…..as they have referred it to their lawyer. Good Grief!

Each chapter begins with a set of four numbered questions. Then answers provided by different rabbis are shown. This is not the most useful way to organize material for readers like me. Why, for example, is Rabbi Chasen (whose name is unfamiliar to me) the first among those who answered the four questions of Chapter 1? Because he is the first on the alphabetic list of authors, at the end of the book. Such organization would be appropriate if the authors were well known representatives of different denominations, from Orthodox to Reconstructionists.But the twelve questions themselves are extremely interesting; they can be used when theological topics are discussed, for example, in the framework of synagogue adult education. Here are seven of these questions: 1. What is your concept of God, and how has your view changed through your life? 2. What is God’s relationship to suffering and evil? 3. What is the connection between God and ethical values? 4. In our science-­‐oriented society, how do you speak of God’s role in nature and in history? 5. What does it mean to be created in the divine image? 6. What is your concept of soul and afterlife? 7. What is a Jewish definition of “being religious” or “having faith”?Ludwik Kowalski, Ph.D. (see Wikipedia)

Good essays on subjects near and dear to most of us: Are we made in God's image? What does gender contribute to being human? What do the terms, grace, salvation and love mean to Jews. Ditto for the concept of a soul and an afterlife. 39 essays by rabbis each answering the same questions. I'm neither Jewish nor religious and still find these worth reading and considering.Biggest quibble? That there's no table of contents by contributor.

This answered more of my questions and is well worth the cost. It’s a bit less well organized than I’d hoped or maybe it’s just me and my ignorance.

Short, sweet and full of heat, Tory Baker does it again with a May-December instalove quickie. Lightning strikes for general contractor Dex when he sees Emma for the first time, and he pulls out all the stops to win over the woman he knows is the one. Dex’s caveman routine may reduce Emma to stuttering and stumbling but it doesn’t take long to convince her that they’re meant to be.

That was fun, funny, and sweet. The Hero knows his woman when he sees her. Our delicate heroine manages to stand up for herself when necessary, but agrees with her man too. The two of them are sweet together. Enjoyable read.

Super naughty and super sweet, it was awesome and I loved it so much! ^_^

Great book

I did not like this book...at all! The male protagonist was very antagonistic. The whole story he was overly "Alpha male" and verbally abusive to the female lead. The whole book was based on doing everything he wanted and nothing she wanted. I kept thinking he was going to hit her. She got out of one abusive relationship with her parents and got right into this abusive relationship with Dex. Emma was presented as a shy, yet strong young woman, but she wasn't strong at all. The severe age difference is another turn off. This whole book put me in a very bad mood. I'm fine with the whole alpha male thing, as long as there is an alpha female along side him.

3.5 StarsThis book wasn't too bad. This was a very quick Insta love romance, it is the story of Dex and Emma.I had a few problems with it one being the age difference, he was 32 and she was 19. I usually don't have a problem with age differences but she came off as a little too innocent. Second I really wanted to know how long he was celibate for, this is just a preference for me. It stated that it had been a while but isn't specific. I liked Dex! He was definitely an OTT sexy alpha male! This is the first book that I have read from Tory Baker and I will definitely read more from her!

It was cute. Dex was very alpha, but not abusively so.... Like bratty almost? Ha - he wanted everything at lightning speed. I liked him. Emma was cute if a bit too silly. "Dex honey" It was too much. Either say his name or an endearment... Both seemed awkward. Which she was but... I don't know. It didn't flow.Dual POV but it felt like it was mostly him which I don't mind. Decently edited.With just this, I would have given a solid 4 stars but it didn't have an epilogue. This is a preference of mine, especially with short stories... I want to sneak a peek at the HEA. I'll definitely read the author again. Sweet & quick weeknight read.

Short, sweet, safe and some steam. That's what I was looking for and that is what I got with this story. I love the blue collar hero falling in love at first sight with the sweet girl next door.-no cheating-no pushing away-instalove-older man/younger woman-safe - neither are with anyone else after meeting-no om drama-OW drama- an old FB shows up and causes some grief. Could have done without that.-just ok epilogue. It was only 3 months out so not nearly enough to satisfy me

Amy sedaris. What can you say? She's hilarious. She's a beautiful women. She's not comfortable in this world. What genius really is?

I get the feeling that Amy Sedaris is simply telling us about her actual life, and we interpret it as humor. That's part of the charm. Also some of these craft ideas are probably actually worth doing.

She is sooo funny, and has the same humor as her brother, David Sedaris. But in a different style...it can be enjoyed by simply browsing through it. You wouldn't really sit down and read it cover to cover.The quality of the pages is really high, so it's fun to page through it. I was surprised by this, considering how cheap it was.She has another book too, which I've also purchased. They are equally great.

If you are looking for an actual craft book, this is not one. I thought this would have actual cute crafts to work on but it is really just funny commentary by Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello. I'm a big fan of Amy Sedaris, so if you love her humor-which is not for everyone- you will love this book. It's packed with pictures and drawings which are awesome, and of course they are hilarious but if you're looking to do crafts, this doesn't offer much at all. For example, "Love Chimes" for your lover were a bunch of rusty nails strung together! I have the book in my living room and people love to flip through it and laugh - or wonder what kind of weirdo I am. :)

I pulled this book out of it's mailer face down, so the first thing I saw was Amy Sedaris in a crafted indian squaw outfit standing in front of a redskin habitat, holding a pipe of some kind.. I literally was laughing before I even opened the book! What amazes me is the level of detail in the photos! There are very subtle elements that are full on 100% Sedaris, and keep me rolling as I find something new every time I look. I don't know how she does it, but I love it. She can be the envy of any burned out elementary school teacher and a sadistic comedian simultaneously. Bipolar entertainment at its finest.

Seriously, I laughed so hard I peed, probably because it is a combination of the most inane things that I sometimes think and am shocked to see someone else thought too and the fond memories I have of awful 20 year old crafting books my crazy Aunt Caro use to send me every year for Christmas. Love you Aunt Caro! I bought it for my assistant because of our mutual love of Amy's brother, David Sedaris' writing and her love of crafting. When I got home I started to look through it and then read it cover to cover and laughed, cried and peed, the entire time. This can be a book for those who take crafting and themselves serious, but never at the same time and never so much that they can't laugh at either. Just when you think that she has out done herself she has something more outlandish on the very next page. I can't say that after reading this I plan to go out and make any of the crafts she has suggested except for Moses' Comb Sheath! Thank you Amy for making me pee my pants!

This is very much in the spirit of Amy Sedaris's online show At Home With Amy Sedaris. The biggest joy is the contrast between the format of a familiar craft guide from the 70s with the serious, authoritative writing --- and the absurd nature of the craft projects and inept execution. It's lavishly and lovingly illustrated with photos of tacky recycled bottlecaps, suspicious strips of burlap and lurking acorns, and contains frighting suggestions about what to do with same. For the Pinterest Fail in your heart.

Amy Sedaris is so funny and this book offers so many fun crafts that are sure to leave your life improved substantially.

This is an extremely basic and simple 192 page summary of the life and accomplishments of Thomas Jefferson. In that context, it is perfectly acceptable. For the life of me, however, I don't see how this could be rated a five (or even four) star effort.If you give this 5 stars, what do you give Truman, or John Adams or War and Peace? When you go to your average Holiday Inn, do you give it five stars? If so, what is a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton? Do you award the gold medal to a diver who does a perfectly executed swan dive? Degree of difficulty must come into play.Having said that, if you're looking for a beginner biography for your junior high student, this would be an excellent selection. If you're interested in the American Presidents series and want to skim the surface of many of our Presidents without going in depth on any of them, this would be the way to go. If you're looking for depth, analysis and context, however, I'd certainly look for more than a 192 page summation.Why then did I purchase this work? I knew what it was when I bought it. I had just finished Ron Chernow's "Hamilton" and had previously read David McCollough's "John Adams". Both of these subjects were rivals and at times bitter enemies of Jefferson. Having been brought up to view Jefferson as a Founding Father of great intellect and importance, it was a little disconcerting to view him through the writing of McCollough and Chernow as a dishonest, venal, calculating opportunist. Chernow, especially, falls into hero worship mode when comparing and contrasting his subject, Hamilton, with Jefferson.In buying this work, I was looking for a more balanced effort without having to invest the time in an 800 page biography which largely recounted the historical events already covered in previously read biographies on Washington, Adams and Hamilton. For that purpose, it was just what the doctor ordered. Unlike Chernow, Bernstein examines his subject warts and all. He acknowledges and doesn't downplay his weaknesses, while at the same time revealing his unquestionable brilliance in many areas.I highly recommend "Hamilton" as an outstanding history lesson and biography of a little appreciated and sometimes disregarded founding father. However, this little tome is a good antidote for the character assassination sustained by Jefferson in the aforementioned work.

This is probably one of the best biographies I've read on a Founding Father. This came with a recommendation from Tom Wood's forum [...] as being a good book on Jefferson.Bernstein presents probably the fairest assessment of a person from the time period as I've seen. He doesn't ascribe deity or hero worship or perfection to the man. He also doesn't disparage Jefferson for being a product of his time and class and society. Bernstein presents Jefferson as a flawed individual who is not always consistent and doesn't always come out on top - also known as "a man".Bernstein takes a look at large periods of Jefferson's life and isn't writing to complete a minutia detailed account of every aspect of his life. However, the areas he does point to build up the man into who he would become, who he was, and how he ended life. Bernstein does reveal quite a bit that you don't learn about in history books or in school because Jefferson tends to be known for only one to two very large things - but he was so much more than those labels only. Bernstein also makes sure the reader understands some of the settings and places and even people surrounding Jefferson. Again, this is covered with a good amount of balance. Jefferson isn't the "man who could do no wrong". I did learn quite a bit about Jefferson, which should be one of the main goals when reading a biography. Bernstein does not shy away, either, of covering points of Jefferson's life like his contradictory position on slavery or his possibly fathering children from one of his slaves. Again, Bernstein, doesn't excuse it but he also doesn't call for readers of the current time to look back and denigrate those who don't hold the same values. Sadly, that's where mainstream conversations and populist books tend to go nowadays.Bernstein does a wonderful job at presenting Jefferson and his history. I highly recommend this book for those wanting to read about Jefferson or the era of the founding of America. I would have liked Bernstein to have gone a bit more into the political discussions Jefferson had with some areas of my own interest. Sometimes he tends to write as Jefferson on one side of the issue, someone else on the other, and here's the outcome. There are times that I wish the author would provide the reasons why Jefferson held to certain positions or had certain interests. However, I believe that may be the hindrance of history rather than the author. Final Grade - A

If you've put off reading a book about our "founding fathers" I would recommend R. B. Bernstein's, "Thomas Jefferson" as a great place to start. Bernstein's book provides a very good, though not detailed, examination of Jefferson's life, reflecting both the good and the bad.
