Encyclopedic reference for Periodontal surgery. The illustrations are outstanding.

Absolutely incredible textbook, excellent drawings and pictures. I just wish the binding were better: mine started to crack from the very beginning, but it could be just my bad luckUpdate: reordered the item and it arrived damaged again. I think the problem is two fold: bad packaging and not a good quality of assembly(shame on a publisher, books of this price rank should be assembled impeccably)

I would give it 5 stars if the quality of papers were good

I read "A Discovery of Witches" several years ago but somehow missed the follow-up novels, so this summer, I have been catching up, re-reading "A Discovery of Witches", which is the first book in the All Souls Trilogy, and the next two in the series, i.e. "Shadow of Night", and "The Book of Life", respectively. I am a fan of creature novels, and rate the All Souls Trilogy as one of the best series I've read. It is intellectual, historical, with romance and elements of the supernatural thrown in for good measure, and well-written, all of which make great ingredients for a thrilling reading experience. In "A Discovery of Witches", readers are introduced to historian Diana Bishop who inadvertently calls up a mystical alchemical manuscript Ashmole 782 while doing research in Oxford's Bodleain Library. She attracts the attentions of handsome geneticist Matthew Clairmont, and soon enough discovers that he too is a creature, but unlike Diana, who is a witch, Matthew is a vampire. The Covenant that binds all creatures: witches, daemons, and vampires forbid commingling of different species of creatures, so when Matthew and Diana fall in love, all hell literally breaks loose. There are also other complications that add to the intrigue of the story: Diana's witch powers are somehow slumbering and only now awakening, although she has no clue how she is to unleash her powers or even control them; Matthew's love for Diana borders on the obsessive, resulting in overprotectiveness and possessiveness that irks Diana; Ashmole 782 is being sought after by all manner of creatures and places Diana's life in jeopardy as she is the only one who has been able to summon this elusive manuscript in a long time. The ensuing chaos sees Diana and Matthew travelling to France where they seek refuge in the ancient fortress of Sept Tours, which is also the de Clermont (Matthew's family) stronghold, where Diana comes under the scrutiny of Matthew's maman, the formidable vampire Ysabeau. I found this first novel to be an intriguing read; the author credibly weaves in scientific information into the narrative as both witch and vampire try to explain the existence of such creatures as themselves and what can be done to prevent them from becoming extinct. In the follow-up novel, "Shadow of Night", Diana and Matthew have time-walked into the past, into 1590 Elizabethan England where a new set of challenges greet the pair. Diana finds a group of witches who help her unravel the mystery of her dormant powers while the couple continues to grapple with the prejudices that come from their union. This second novel is very much historical as Diana's and Matthew's lives become entwined with the goings-on of the period such as the witch hunts in Scotland, Queen Elizabeth's strategies to cement her power, and more. Finally, the trilogy ends with the novel, "The Book of Life", and I found this last novel to be the most interesting and thrilling. This time, the story takes a very dark turn as Matthew and Diana return to the present only to find that there is someone from Matthew's past who is bent on destroying him and all that Matthew and Diana hold dear.If you love stories about vampires, witches, and daemons, and enjoy history as well as a dash of romance, the All Souls Trilogy is a thrilling and engaging read. This boxed set is lovely; it contains all three novels in hardcover and comes in a sturdy cardboard box. There is also a bonus in the form of Diana's Book of Days (small little notebook) and looks great on my bookcase.

I've been trying for a few days now to compose my thoughts about this trilogy in hopes that I won't ramble too much when I review it. I can't promise that I won't ramble a bit, but I think I've finally got it down. In the interest of full disclosure, I didn't purchase the boxed set. I read these individually from a friend who recommended them to me. And, I read the physical books. Normally I'm not too particular regarding physical books or ebooks, but for these I'd definitely recommend reading the physical book. It added to the experience. So, let's get into it. The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness...Wow! Before reading this series I would have told you that the closest I would ever get to enjoying, let alone reading a series about witches, vampires and daemons would be Harry Potter and the Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman. I am so glad to report that I was wrong. This series is amazing. I thought about reviewing the individual books, but honestly this series is best taken as a whole. Not that the individual books aren't fabulous! Because they are.Ok, so, here we go. Everything is so deliciously complex about these books. Diana Bishop is a historian and tenured professor at Yale. She's also a witch. At this point I should mention that witches, daemons and vampires are kind of the norm in this authors world. Well, the world of her books. Humans, witches, daemons, and vampires are the world's higher life forms, if you will. The non-humans refer to themselves collectively as "creatures". Anyway, Diana is the last in the line of very powerful witches. But she doesn't use her powers. In fact, she wishes she wasn't a witch at all. She hasn't been interested in her powers or much of her family since a tragedy befell her parents when she was just seven years old. But just because she doesn't want it, doesn't mean it isn't there. While doing some research in the Bodleian library at Oxford, Diana calls up a book, Ashmole 782, and her powers make themselves known. The books is protected by magic and her magic responds to it. Annoyance and fear override her curiosity and she sends it back to storage. The very next day, Diana's life gets immeasurably more complicated. All of a sudden she is surrounded by daemons, witches, and a particularly bold vampire when she returns to the library to continue her research. In short order she is threatened, questioned, and warned. All because of that book. Her life quickly stops being her own when she falls under the protection of a 1500 year old vampire, Matthew Clairmont, who suspects that the book she called up by accident was, in fact, a manuscript that may or may not hold the secrets to the beginnings of all creatures, including humans. People are willing to kill her to get their hands on the manuscript or to keep it buried. The race to find the book again and it's origins will take Diana and Matthew across Europe and back in time. All the while, Diana is coming into the powers she was born with and learning things about her family, particularly her parents, that will change everything. Are you intrigued? I am and I just wrote and I read the books! I'm definitely reading these again. Anyway, let's talk about why this series is so yummy. It's all in the details! Deborah Harkness is, first and foremost, a historian and it shows! But this is not like reading a history book. Every little tiny detail is wrapped up in the story and flows amazingly well for as much as she's throwing at you. Diana is no slouch as a teacher or a student and her excitement at all the things she learns throughout her journey is magnificent. It's all so...just wow! Seriously, this book is chock full of history, religion, mythology and magic. Literal magic and figurative magic. It's just awesome. Oh, and forget anything you think you know about witches, vampires and daemons. This book comes at each of these subjects in such a refreshing way that you can't help but rewrite your own definitions of these "creatures".I loved everything about these books. Even the fact that each book is nearly 600 pages long! It's necessary for the story. Rarely do I say that. I've read some reviews of these books that stated that the whole trilogy could have been wrapped up in one, shorter book. I honestly don't see how that's possible. The fun with this book is not the harrowing, action-packed moments, but with the discoveries that are made and how each little piece fits this huge puzzle. The energy is constant throughout the book. You never really come down, though some moments do ratchet up the intensity. But it's consistent. And I loved it. It didn't end with this huge, apocalyptic bang! But it remained consistent. That's really the only way I know how to describe it. It was awesome. I can't say more than that without giving away the book. This series also has a cast of characters that, to me, were almost better than the story itself. Diana, a confident, successful historian who has so much trouble getting out of her head. Matthew, a 1500 year old vampire with control issues and a seriously outdated attitude toward women who struggles to fit into Diana's world and is no slouch as a scientist. Gallowglass, Matthew's nephew...let me tell you, I think he was probably my favorite character. Emily and Sarah, Diana's aunts are just too much for me to describe here. And Matthew's family who round out the characters and cover everything you could think of. And, for what it's worth, I LOVE Matthew's mother. She's scary as hell, but awesome. This series really does have it all. Science, history, mythology, magic, love, fate...ahhh. Does it get any better than that? And it evolves. The characters grow and change. The story grows and changes. It's a central theme of the book and it never waivers. There are, of course, a lot of other things happening, but for me the central theme was one of evolution. Evolution of creatures, evolution of love, evolution of family, evolution of ideas. It's extraordinary! This is more than just a supernatural tale (although there's is absolutely nothing wrong with seeing it that way). It is a tale about life, society, history, family, and acceptance.I highly recommend this series. It's not gory, it's not violent, the vampires don't sparkle, and the sexy parts are sexy, not pornographic. It really is the whole package as far as I'm concerned. So, suspend reality. Clear your mind, grab some snacks, tea, coffee whatever and settle in for a journey. You won't be disappointed! Cheers!

I originally bought Deborah Harkness' All Souls Trilogy one by one as they were released on Kindle. After I had finished rereading them for the third time I thought maybe I want to actually own copies of these. I was pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of this boxed set. I recommend the books because they are well written and keep the reader interested. The author tells the story well enough that even though you know what happens, you will want to reread them over again. The physical set itself is very nicely made and looks great on your shelf. This would make a great gift too.

LOVED the first book, it made me obsessively read it for a few days until it was done. The second book was engaging and interesting but the third, I'm sorry to say, didn't hold me in thrall. I finished the series because I was curious to see how it would wrap everything up but I wasn't entirely satisfied. Mind you, I don't know what it would have taken to tie it all up in a neat bow for me, because it was such an original take on the genre that I had no idea what to expect. I I was particularly taken with the obvious amount of research, attention to detail and the way historical detail was made by way of observation and conversation - beautifully done. I heartily recommend this series!

I love this series so much. I am an avid reader and do not often re-read books, especially series. With this series, I have re-read it three times in the space of 6 months. The characters are enthralling and stay with you through-out the day. Vampires, yes. Witches, yes. Other creatures, yes. But they are intelligently designed to be fresh and new. Amazingly entertaining while challenging the reader to open their eyes to a magically academic environment.

#478,423 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Here is a very general and rather dry chronology of the institutional development of the Jesuit order, but very little human history. The main takeaway is a catalog of Jesuit missions in various parts of the world, how many schools and where, how many Jesuits in the aggregate. Maybe the author was constrained by length, but even the dramatic events -- Jesuits of the Counterreformation, Jesuit martyrs of North America, how the Jesuits have met the sexual scandals -- are given short shrift or no mention at all. What were those "spiritual exercises" of St. Ignatius? What was it about Francis Xavier which made him such a popular saint? Where is the famous confrontation between philosopher-atheist Bertrand Russell and the Jesuit Frederick Copleston? And since we now have a Jesuit pope, the lack of more than a cursory look at the "personal" relationship between the order and the popes -- a unique relationship -- seems a glaring fault. In any case, the updating seems hurried and tacked-on.Yes, as Father O'Malley says, the history is very long and complex, and doubtless there is admirable humility, if not publishing constraint, at work here, in not singling out a few stories, when hundreds, or even thousands are worthy of note. But the point of telling a few stories -- arbitrary as that may be -- rather than none, is to flesh out, to humanize, to evoke empathy in the reader, so that the message of what it means to be a Jesuit can be communicated. Alas, there is precious little to be found in this thin work.

This book is very easy to understand and provides a great amount of detail of the most important historical elements about the society of Jesus. It is an excellent resource book for anyone who seeks to understand the complex cities of the society of Jesus.

Well written and proves interesting insights about the Jesuits and why they are so controversial. Amazing how they have been able to "recreate" themselves many times over the past 500 years. I recommend the book especially for those who have attended Jesuit Preps or Colleges.

I read this book on the plane coming back from Atlanta as I was preparing myself for an Ignatian pilgrimage to Spain in a couple of months. What I like about most books I read by Jesuits is that they lead right away with the purpose of the book. This book is no exception. The book is to “provide in almost skeletal form the basic narrative of the origin, development, triumphs and tribulations of the society of Jesus up to the present”. Secondly, “to provide through almost arbitrary choice descriptions in detail of a few undertakings”. I will abide by those guidelines. The relationship of the Pope to the Jesuits is investigated in the Preface as a way to understand how Jesuit will interact with this Pope. The Pope’s own relationship with the Jesuits has not been without bumps. He called the Superior General of the Jesuits and they talked about the importance of their structure and how it will be played out. The Jesuits Rescue Service which operate in 47 countries and serves 750,000 people. The Jesuits would like to double there service in this area by 2020. In the United States the Jesuits are attempting to provide quality education for all through their Christo Ray schools. The Jesuits have begun Arupe College in Chicago to assist financially disadvantaged students to move on, and finish up their schooling at Loyola University. This is often a complicated task as all the variables confounding the issue need attention by the student and their professors.Returning to the Foundations of the order, the reader sees Ignatius in Paris around 1528. He is in union with 6-8 men who consider themselves, friends in the Lord. The first major thing they did together was to take a trip to the Holy Land. As it is for most of civilization including myself, it made a significant difference in their spirituality. They banded even more together to create the Formula to submit to the Holy See. With the publication of this document, the Society of Jesus came into existence on September 27, 1540. The membership grew by leaps and bounds and 16 years later when Ignatius died there were over 1000 members. They engaged in the same ministries of other orders: preaching and hearing confessions. Different from other orders, the Jesuits did not wear a distinctive habit and they retained their family names. Ignatius gave himself to a severe practice that included long hours of prayer, fasting, self-denial and other austerities that would be considered harsh even at that time in the history of the Jesuits. The Spiritual Exercises became an important part of the Jesuits daily life. The purpose of the book was to get in touch with themselves and to get in touch with the God within. This was to help to create a deeper spiritual life. These exercises gave a structure for the lives of the novices who were joining the Jesuits. From the spiritual exercises came the Retreat. This retreat was beyond the rites and rituals already established but were a way of deepening their relationship with Jesus. Their schools proliferated in an almost mystical fashion. They wanted to teach all socioeconomic classes and intended to keep the doors open to all, however, many of the students were from the upper class. The Jesuits created lectures on a book of the Bible or some topic of interest to all. They would sit in the congregation and the people listening would sit in front. The Jesuits had a structure that assisted all in loving and serving God more deeply.Another person of importance to the foundation of the Jesuits was Fr. Canisius who founded 18 schools in the area around Germany. The Reformation made inroads around the area and into Poland, Fr. Canisius brought Catholicism back to the area. Brazil was another area that the Jesuits became successful in. The linguistics of the area made hearing confessions a problem as the native customs hampered the understanding of the different dialects. By the time Ignatius died, the relationship with the Holy See had disintegrated into a kind of chaos. The Pope wanted the Jesuits to say the Liturgy of the Hours but the foundational documents were the Spiritual Exercises. When the new Pope, Pius IV, made amends with the Jesuits and released them from the obligation of the Liturgy of the Hours, peace was established with the Holy See. The first century of the Jesuits went well and the Jesuits moved into the second with confidence. The work with the Japanese failed but that was an exception so they moved on with distinction. Their institutions in Latin America provided networks of support that assisted their work. The next 30 pages or so discusses the movement of the Jesuits across the globe. They made mistakes and were willing to do so. In 1773 by virtue of a papal brief, the Society of Jesus ceased to exist and by virtue of a papal bull 41 years later, it was restored to life. The Vatican Council II and moved the Society beyond certain positions it had formally or informally adopted in those circumstances, gave the society the mandate “to promote understanding and dialogue among people of all religious faiths. It took into account the great cultural shifts that occurred since the great restoration of 1814 and moved the Society beyond certain positions it had formally or informally adopted in those circumstance”I would recommend this book to anyone fascinated by the many different facets of the Jesuits. My interest and admiration of the Jesuits has been in the field of education but there is so much more to these holy men including our beloved Pope. After reading this book I understand more fully the wise decisions that all Jesuits are called to make.

Concise and informative. Brave and decent men who truly reflect Christ's teachings.

Good gift for person involved with the Jesuits.

I enjoyed reading smoothly. I loved it.

An excellent coverage of the ups, downs and ups of the Jesuit men and their congregation. May they continue to go out on mission throughout our world. They certainly cover countless fields. Very dedicated men. God bless them all.

I am an industrial design student and purchased this Industrial Design Reference book to learn more about Industrial Design. The book contains lots of great and useful information! From manufacturing techniques to materials. I was very pleased with the purchase of this book and will definitely have this book handy throughout my studies as an ID student!

This is a great reference book for product designers. Not sure that it has everything a product designer would need, but definitely covers a lot of information including materials, methods, etc.

a bit hard to navigate (for me) and illustrations tend to the small but useful and very valuable data

Focuses a lot on technical aspects over design principals and thinking.Good reference book but by no means a stand alone on industrial design

very good first atempt to a product development comprehensive manual.

I am an industrial design student, this book was truly helpful.

This is the book I've been waiting for. Great reference material on topics ranging from ergonomics to material selection and even electronics. Simple, straightforward explanations and information. Bonus points for including a glossary. I recommend it to all design students and design professionals. Design professors: Make this a required text!!

Once I started reading, I could not put this book down. I was v eager to hear what the Lord said to Segatashya. It is also heartwarming to hear how he spoke to the Lord, asked very candid questions and at times advised God. What a miracle the Lord performed in his life. For those who have doubts whether there is a God, this is your proof. This book is humbling when you see how the young man literally dropped his bags and followed God. Such faith and trust. Also, he was aware that he would live a short life but that life was a remarkable life. Rwanda has always been on my mind with the view that one day, I would like to visit. After reading this book, I definitely want to go esp to Kibeho. This book is for people of all faiths not only Christains or Catholics.Thank you Immacullee for sharing this wonderful story. So many if us Africans are unaware that we also have a sacred place on our continent. Thank God for sparing your life and giving you the possibility to spread his word of love, forgiveness and compassion. Who could be a more credible at teaching this to us than someone who has experienced such loss and suffering. May God continue to use you use mightily and bless you in immeasurable ways.

"Tell this one truth to all those to whom you speak to in my name: Believe in me, and in whatever you do in life, do it with faith and love." (Jesus speaking to Segatashya)(Kindle Loc. 859-862)Simply put, The Boy Who Met Jesus: Segatashya of Kibeho, by Immaculée Ilibagiza, is an amazing story. It is clear that Ilibagiza is a Catholic of great faith, and her book is a first-person recollection of her lifelong spiritual quest to meet an illiterate peasant boy from a remote region of Rwanda who purportedly met Jesus Christ and had many discussions with him. The story is filled with danger and tragedy, interspersed with powerful inspirational messages. I would imagine that anyone reading this book, and aware of the 1994 Rwandan genocide of the Tutsis by the Hutus, would experience an incredible wash of emotions - I know I did.As a young girl in Rwanda, Ilibagiza heard the story of Segatashya and the other visionaries of Kibeho from the local clergy and from her Father. These teenagers were receiving visits from both Jesus and Mary, and sharing their messages to tens of thousands of pilgrims who wanted to hear what they had to say. Enamored of Segatashya in particular, Ilibagiza wanted to make the long distance travel on foot to see and hear the boy, but at age 12, her father told her she was too young and would not take her on the long and arduous trip to a distant village. Her Father reported his experience of visiting Kibeho and the palpable feeling of Divine presence."How often in life can you find a place where thousands upon thousands of people are pressed together in one little area for days on end with very little food or water without any bickering or fighting? In Kibeho I scarcely heard a single word spoken in anger ... there is just no other place like it, not in Rwanda, not anywhere!" Dad gushed. "The loving presence of the Virgin Mary and the peace of her son have undoubtedly transformed Kibeho into a place unlike any I've seen in all my travels. The loving presence of God was felt everywhere!" (Loc. 669-673)Emmanuel Segatashya was a pagan farm boy with no schooling and no religious education. He was raised a "dirt-poor" peasant, and had hardly left his farm before his visitation and subsequent agreement with Jesus to tell his messages. The very first message that Segatashya clearly understood was a request. "And then the voice addressed me a third time, saying, `You there, child, if you are given a message to deliver to the world, will you deliver it?'" (Loc. 1069-1070). Very astutely, Segatashya said he would, if Jesus would grant him with the knowledge to speak intelligently to those who listened to him and especially if any had questions. (I personally think this is a VERY wise request.) It was clearly granted, as this young man who could not read and had never seen a Bible was quoting scripture and verse perfectly, advising clergy and laity alike. He was instructed to walk 30 miles from his farm to Kibeho where the other visionaries were sharing their messages from Mother Mary. Over the course of the next year he continued to be in nearly constant communication with Jesus and sometimes Mary. He shared many messages of love, faith, and focus, but also was also given a much darker foreboding of end times that foreshadowed the Rwandan genocide and his own death."Segatashya: A couple of weeks ago [during a vision on September 1, 1982] Jesus showed me people burning in a fire and wild animals that were tearing each other apart and devouring each other. Then he showed me people hacking each other to bits with machetes. Jesus didn't give me any specific explanation about what those terrifying images meant or when those things might happen. But you can all understand what he wanted to show me: it is how people are feeling toward one another, that more and more they hate one another and want to harm each other. Jesus wants all that to change. The only way for the world to change is through his love and forgiveness." (Loc. 1697-1702)Years later in 1992, as a college student at the National University of Rwanda, Ilibagiza learned by chance that Segatashya worked on campus at the university chapel and library as a handyman. She went out of her mind searching for him for years, and now there he was, at the same school she was attending. They became friends and he was able to answer many of the questions she had for years. Sadly, less than two years later, Rwanda's prophesied destruction took the lives and property of nearly a million people, including Segatashya, and nearly all of the recordings of the Visionaries of Kibeho were lost.Segatashya's visions have not yet been officially declared genuine by the Catholic Church, but three of the earliest Kibeho Visionaries were confirmed as Divinely Inspired by the Vatican. Continuing her work long after his death, Ilibagiza interviewed people who talked with Segatashya and examined him while he was in spiritual communication, and reviewed his messages in detail. None of these people have any doubt that he was genuine and his message was directly from Jesus. Her book, The Boy Who Met Jesus: Segatashya of Kibeho, is the compilation of her life-time support of Segatashya and his messages. As with many of these experiences and revelations, there are those that are inclined to believe and those that don't. In my way of thinking, it doesn't really matter what you say, or what you do, or what faith your follow - all that matters is what you hold in your heart while doing it. As Segatashya said, quoting Jesus:"No one is forced to believe in God, but still, God lives in every person's heart ... just follow your heart to God's love. Those who live in love will hear God's voice, because God's voice is a voice of love." (Loc. 861-863)

The organization of this book is such that it has to be read more than once to get the full impact of its message. Perhaps this was the author’s intention. The very first mission of Segatashya clearly demonstrates that God has a good sense of humor, something that I personally know from experience. The early messages, allegedly from Jesus, seem to imply, incorrectly, that all religions are equal, but this might just be a lack of accuracy in the interpretation of the original wording. Surely two religions cannot be equal if the “truth” revealed by one is the exact opposite of the “truth” claimed by the other. An example would be where the Christian religion forbids the intentional killing of an innocent human being versus Islam which seems to condones the random killing of infidels and Jews. The idea that God could forgive Satan is interesting but implausible. The pride of Satan makes it impossible for him to to be truly repentant of his rebellion against God.The final missionary messages of Segatashya in Congo are perfectly aligned with Catholic teachings. Here he lectured against sexual sins like polygamy, premarital sex, and homosexual acts, much to the displeasure of his audiences. Seemingly missing from the messages is the condemnation of contraception that is the indirect cause of divorce, abortion, and abuse of all kinds. It is remarkable that Segatashya and his whole family entered the Catholic Church when they began to understand God’s revelations. The unfortunate destruction of most records of the messages from Jesus during the Rwandan genocide may make it impossible for any definitive rulings of the authenticity of Segatashya’s visions. Nevertheless, the book is well worth reading. Any end of the world predictions should be taken to refer to the end of our individual lives. Repent and sin no more.
