So I've been a LMT for about two years now. One year I was not doing massage, the other year I did massage 1-2 days a week. I am good at what I do though I obviously need more experience. I'm studying for the mblex with this study guide and I would just like to say that I think EVERY massage therapist should own one of these. This is a great reference guide for all of the basics. I really feel like this will help me pass the mblex. I started studying a month before my exam date and now I have two more weeks left to review. I'll try to remember to update this review with my score.Update: I did pass the MBLEX exam. I do believe that this book helped with a lot of refreshing. I did also use the AMTA phone app which has about 400 practice test questions; I think that helped out immensely as well. Tbh, If you're just going off of the book to study I would be somewhat confident that you'd pass. The extra test questions are necessary I think. The book has test questions after every chapter and then a slightly larger test at the end (all of them around 12-14 q's). ALSO, I did find some TYPOS in the test questions! One that was actually significant. It was a question that asked how warm hot stones should be. The correct answer was not listed in the answers to choose from. And then in the review of the correct answer, the temperatures were different even from the original choices. I had to look it up on google just to make sure I knew what the correct answer was. In any case I don't think that made the book less helpful it was more just annoying than anything. Nonetheless, I would recommend this book coupled with extra test questions. I'd be confident to pass the test then. Good luck!
I bought and used this book to help me study and pass the MBLEx exam, along with a variety of other resources from AMTA, ABMP, the public library, and another similar book on Amazon. I would not have passed the exam without studying very hard and for a long time, since it had been 25 years from the time I graduated from massage school in Denver to taking the test to get a Florida massage license. I definitely found this book helpful.
i just finished this book/review prep. Its very basic and fairly straightforward. i do feel like it helped me isolate a few areas where i need to brush up on. There needs to be a careful audit of the info because there are a couple wrong answers. For example, pg 112 asks, "who is widely credited with founding modern Swedish massage?" the answer sheet says D and D says "A and C". A says Johan Mezger and C says Sigmund Freud LOL. So no, answer D (A and C) is not correct, Also, this was a bitpricey for what you get and thats another reason i give it a 3 star.Update: i took the mblex and do feel like this review only helped minimally
I really love this book. I've learned more from this book then I have in my 2.5 months at my massage school. I'll change my rating to a 5 star if I pass my MBLEX thank you so much. I can't wait to buy another for a friend but I have to wait a little bit.
I recommend this study book, it has great information and it is a perfect study tool.I have purchased the MBLEX Study Guide- Test Prep Book & Practice Exam Questions for the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination. I would rate this book a 5, great study information and review. I have just finished my 500 hours and will be preparing for my test.
